Towards Disastour blog vol. 1: Que-heck

Hell yeah brothers and sisters! This is Spencer LeVon peck-pecking away as we roll towards the American border from Quebec.

Goddamn, Quebec roads stink. I swear, Quebec must be the pylon capital or the world, because the highway looks like an in-line skating course gone horribly wrong. A local told me that this is because the construction companies started repairing the roads all over the province, but then went halfway through the job went on strike in hopes of more money from the government. And although I would rather gouge out my left eye with an AIDS dick then navigate these godforsaken roads I must admit, that is a gangster-ass move.

We are currently on day 3 of our tour. It all started off in our hometown of Toronto on Friday night for our album launch of new record Psychonaut. What a night. Special thanks to Call of the Wild and Shotgun Cure for the support. Great night from start to finish. It was a real confidence booster playing to a packed house of friends and fans that have been keeping an eye on us from our humble beginnings in the metal scene, trying new things, experimenting and introspectively defining who we are as a group of unique individuals in this crazy-ass metal band. Toronto has for sure shaped who we are as people and as a band.  You can see it in our work ethic, our open minds towards people and experiences, and similarly in our eternal search for a unique identity that you must cultivate to survive in a city of 2.6 million. Thank you to everyone who came out and had a crazy night with us. The memories of that one night of bliss will act as positivity fodder for when I am inevitably playing to 5 indifferent strangers in town called “Fuckton” or “Weaselburg” on a Tuesday night in exchange for slightly-discounted mozzarella sticks.

Right now I am watching as my guitar player Eytan heroically takes a leak into a bottle as we faithfully maneuver the labyrinthine clusterfuck that is Quebec construction. It is these kinds of moments when I look deep into my own soul and softly whisper my newfound mantra: “I should have been a dentist. I should have been a dentist…”

Last night we played Piranha Bar in Montreal. What a truly amazing city Montreal is. 100% authentic and unique in every way. But I must ask, is everyone in Montreal a 10? Goodness, even the homeless look like Abercrombie models. I can see that diet being a big hit, the Montreal homeless diet. “Eat nothing but peach pits, pizza crusts, wine dregs and gutter-marinated smoked meat and have washboard abs in a month and a half.” We went up last night with no set list or idea of what we were going to play. That is fun to do every now and again. It helps us develop our onstage improvisation and musicianship to go by the seats of our collective pants. That kind of performance is conducive to spontaneity that I have always thought was a great device for compelling entertainment. Like a rollercoaster with no restraints. Apparently our friends Sam and Max got engaged to each other during our title track Psychonaut. That’s a first! I’m glad they waited until we were actually playing a song and I was finished talking about my penis.

As we continue rumbling towards the United States we have a nervous energy because we know we will be at the mercy of whomever we meet at the border. They have absolute power over us. They have the ability to cancel our whole trip, and potentially our music careers, and even more shocking, they have the unchecked authority to look in our bums. We are currently at our last gas stop before crossing over into the States and we are frantically cleaning the van, making sure we made no mistakes with our paper work and throwing out all of our plums and pears. Is that the biggest threat to national security? Fuckin' plum smugglers?  Are they looking to prevent crimes of Passionfruit?

I will be sure to let you know how it goes. Stay tuned for more blog entries and keep track of us on our brand new podcast entitled “The Fatality Backseat LeVoncast” to take a rare look into the conversations and adventures of a touring metal band as we do our darnedest to conquer the world with nothing but a mild headache, an unfortunate road diet and no sleep. You can search for it and subscribe to it on iTunes in the Podcast section, or you can find it at www.fatality.podbean.com. Did I mention that it’s free????

Wish us luck, dearest friends.

Spencer “what are you doing with that rubber glove!?” LeVon

P.S. We made it!

Fatality Album Launch Announcement and Fundraiser

Today is a big day.

As I sit here in Eytan and Adam’s backyard with the sun in the sky and Red Fang blasting on the stereo.. To my left I can hear the Spanish family next door screaming at eachother and eating lunch, and to my right I can hear the sounds of the rest of the band getting last-minute details ready before we start the sequence of the many huge announcements and projects that we have been painstakingly and diabolically creating for ourselves, setting up the thrash dominoes and lookin' forward to flickin' those fuckin' things and watchin' em tumble. With our collective fingers on the detonator we feel like a pack of war-ready Kim Jong Uns with slightly less baby fat.

So are ya ready for this fuckin’ plug fest? Grab yourself a bite to eat and a cold drink, I’ll wait here.

First of all, we have finished tracking our sophomore album entitled “Psychonaut,” and have the release date settled. Mark your calendars for June 28th, as we will be having a massive CD release party and tour launch at Sneaky Dee’s with Shotgun Cure and Call of the Wild. I am absolutely beaming with pride with this album. You can expect increasingly more modern, mature sounds and lyrical content, married with that signature no-holds-barred Fatality vibe and attitude that we are known for. We also have a massive tour lined up in support.

Wait, shit, rewind, did I say tour???? By golly, I did. You can also look forward to a large-scale 70-day tour of Canada and the United States in support of the best recording work we have done to date. I can’t wait to spend my summer in a metal tube on wheels with my best friends making this bizarre dream come true. Take a look at our tour dates and see if we are playing in a town near you, because we would love to see you, and have a drink, joke around and kick each other in the nuts, or whatever it is that dudes do. Having the opportunity to play all this new music in front of a new crowd every night is daunting but ultimately rewarding. It’s like the movie Groundhog Day, except we’re seeking the love of a roomful of random drunks rather than trying to fuck Andie MacDowell.

We have also filmed a professional music video with Bleeding Heart Productions for our single “Thoughts Collide”. We don’t have a release date just yet, but keep your eyes peeled for that video, because it is gonna change your fucking life.

Now, here is what you can do to get involved and be a part of this wild venture of ours. We have created an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign and a sweet video that explains exactly what we are doing and how you can help. Basically, as an independent band, the main thing that we lack is proper funding. So what we are doing is creating a way for you to support us by pre-ordering the album, or pitching in a few bucks to receive really cool perks, including: merch bundles, a recording of a love song written by me, music lessons by any member of the band, and entrance to the exclusive listening party and video launch.

So please, check out the video and contribute a few bucks to keep us on this righteous journey of ours.

I am sure that I will continue writing some blog entries on our travels, but now that I have my brother Mason LeVon on tour with us, we have decided to record a Podcast entitled “the Fatality Backseat LeVoncast” as a vehicle to chronicle our travels, tell stories, dick jokes, and recount our failures and victories. I am so happy to have this outlet because it will give the world a look into the scope of a touring metal band and the conversations, personalities, trials and tribulations that make up this very unique and entertaining scenario. You can search for it on iTunes, or check it out at www.fatality.podbean.com and at the bottom of this post.

Get some sleep,

Spencer “the Southern Dandy” LeVon

4:20 Tour Series NEXT WEEKEND

Hey everybody!
This is Spencer LeVon here with a few announcements regarding your favourite heavy metal scumbags, Fatality.
First of all I am endlessly excited to head out on our 420 concert series, which is happening NEXT WEEKEND. We will be heading to the Brass Monkey in Ottawa on the 19th of April with Old James and Eagleson for Chris Stephenson’s birthday. The next day it’s a quick jaunt over to the Piranha Bar in Montreal on the 20th to play with our friends in Protocol, with every intention of smoking the province dry and convincing ourselves that our 3rd grade French isn’t as atrocious as all the disgusted locals let on. On Sunday the 21st we will be heading to Oshawa to play a free show at the Atria, work up a strong buzz, and hopefully have the courage to call in sick to work the following day.
What a great way to spend the weekend: gallivanting like the pack of giggling boobs that we are. It has been over a year since we have been to Montreal, so we are super excited to showcase all our new material and almost definitely eat a poutine that is bigger than our heads and rub a currently-above-.500 Maple Leafs season in everyone’s face. I can see it now: “Hey, look who’s briefly hangin’ in there, eh? We’d have to collapse harder than usual to fuck it up again this year!”

This mini tour will be a celebration for us as we as we come to the final phase of the production for our upcoming sophomore album which will, mark my words, give your earholes a staggering evening of savage love making and, like a gentleman, call you a cab the following morning. We are also lining up some huge projects in the summer including extensive touring, a professional music video, and a few other things that will hopefully put this band over the top. So stay tuned for those announcements in the coming months.

To get rid of the old and make way for the new, we have decided to liquidate all our merch that is currently in stock. So take a look at our revamped merch store HERE, because not only is all of our stock at an all-time low price, but it is also all going out of print. So get it before it’s gone, folks! These are guaranteed to become collector’s items, insofar as they are definitely items, and having at least one constitutes a collection.

Also, check out the short video of me gearing up for a weekend of devastation at the top of the page!

Get some sleep folks,

Speen

Recording Full-Length

This is Spencer LeVon here peck-pecking away at Adam Zlotnik's laptop like a fat girl on myspace. Right now I am just listening to a bit of jazz and relaxing in between the frantic and frenzied activities that consume the life of a modern working musician.

I don’t know what my problem is lately.  As I get older, I seem to be developing the musical taste of Elmer Fudd. My hairline isn’t far behind either. I am not entirely sure where my jazz infatuation came from, but I have a feeling it came out of necessity. All day while I am stuck in traffic, waiting in one of life’s many lines or something as simple as waiting for the brainless zero in front of me to make up his mind about what kind of pizza slice he would like to order while simultaneously maintaining a phone conversation with his girlfriend with his iPhone wedged in between his fat head and his shoulder; my inner self-important, narcissistic, selfish self rears his ugly head. While I am in full-fledged Sam Kinison mode, I hear ceaseless hammering blast beats in my mind. All I can hear is the beat of my heart pulsating like a frantic Dave Lombardo drum solo as my blood pressure soars from high to higher and I develop the anxiety of Anne Frank wearing tap-shoes.  The desire to commit crimes against humanity seems overwhelming.

Yet somehow, jazz music seems to help me with this.  A bit of Jazz goes a long way folks. Fuck medication, fuck meditation, and fuck yoga. Pick up a Lenny Breau album and watch as your inner demons softly melt into fedora-wearing angels snapping their fingers in syncopated time.  The likelihood of living out my murder-murder-murder-suicide fantasy approaches zero.

I plan to unwind this weekend as me and the Fatality boys will be heading into the recording studio in Oak Ridges. I have always felt relaxed and comfortable in recording studios. It’s as relaxing as shitting with the home-toilet advantage.  I don’t know what it is about the recording process that I find soothing. I think it is the fact that I am blessed to be working with my best friends with a common goal in mind. Enjoying the gift of pure expression, I feel like a grinning Wile E. Coyote as he drags his cartoon detonator device behind a boulder and waits to set off the stack of dynamite that he mischievously placed along a winding desert road, in hopes of finally vaporizing that fucking bird once and for all.

You can expect an enlightened new full-length album to be released this summer as well as an extensive tour of Canada and the United States. I really can’t wait to be set loose on metal fans across this continent and do what we have been training to do all our lives. It really is a beautiful life, and the more I reflect on all of the great opportunities we are creating for ourselves the happier I become. I am generally a happy camper, as long as no one is taking more time then I deem appropriate to order a cunting slice of pizza.

Another perk that has me smiling is a 420 tour to Montreal and Ottawa to showcase some of our new material and shamelessly party like animals with all the folks we are fortunate enough to call friends that we have met on this long strange heavy metal journey.

Keep your eyes open for tour dates, release dates and plans for total world domination (in a non-Hitlery way).

Get some sleep,
I love you

Spencer LeVon

The General Tao Diaries: Weekend Warriors

What’s going on folks? This is Spencer LeVon writing to you from the Esquire Great Eastern Chinese restaurant in beautiful North York Toronto. I just got fired from my job 15 minutes ago and I am trying to ease the pain with some general Tao chicken. Typical white guy order. I may as well have just asked the Asian gentlemen at the counter what they have that tastes the most like chicken wings. If there were a way to somehow add mayonnaise to this dish, I'm sure I would submit to a full on fit of honkey-boy ecstasy.

Getting fired is great isn’t it? Not quite as fun as quitting, mind you. Because at least then it is on your terms. But really when you get down to it, getting fired is just gods way of telling you to watch more daytime television. I might normally be tempted to contemplate my future or perhaps simply yell at myself shirtless in the mirror, rhetorically asking myself how a chinless nobody like myself managed to survive this long. But I can’t. There is just too much cool shit happening to even begin feeling bummed out for a minute.

For starters, Fatality has got an old school weekend warrior road trip lined up this weekend with gigs in Ottawa and Toronto. We kick it off on this Friday November the 2nd in our nations capital with our thrash companions Aggressor, Mastery, Criticull and our buddies from the Yukon, Sanktuary. The very next day we will be peeling our sorry asses off of whatever floor we managed to stick to, and head straight to Toronto to perform a headlining show at the Hard Luck Bar alongside Aggressor, Mastery, Lethal Voltage and our French Canadian buddies in Eternal Judgment. This is just what I need. 2 nights of screeching insanity with a pack of bands that I care deeply for.
What is better is that all of this excitement will lead us into our final portion of songwriting and the transition into the studio to record our second full-length album. Holy shit! I am completely pleased with our new material. It is a little bit more dynamic and daring, but still as razor sharp and potent as always. I really cannot wait to take these tracks into the studio and bring them to life. You can catch some of our new material at the up coming gigs this weekend!!
To celebrate my newfound free time, I have some fresh content for all ya'll. First up, here is a promo video made by our bass player Adam Zlotnik to promote our Toronto headliner gig on November 3rd. The footage used was from our last Headliner at the Hard Luck on September 1st. God damn we have a lotta fun! We also threw in an awful blowjob joke in there for good measure.

We also have a batch of photos we took a few months back with the beautiful and talented Victoria J. Polsoni featured in this blog. They turned out great, and she did a really good job. I think the only reason we didn’t release these earlier is because my hair looks like a mix between Helen hunt and “The Leader” of the Movmentarien cult from that Simpsons episode. Yuck. What was I thinking?!
Anyways, I’m going to wrap up this blog and take my chicken to go, because I am unemployed and I don’t want to miss the Power Puff girls on YTV.
Hope to see you this weekend. Lets party!
Spencer LeVon
